A more tailored look.
Start with Mags if you like a clean, defined shape. High arms frame your place to sit; low arms open the sides to the room. The original family has a 40 cm seat height.
The kin. edit / HAY
One family.
Your way of living.
Crisp or softly rounded. High arms or low. Fixed upholstery or a removable cover. Get to know Mags, then find the version that feels like you.

A little guidance from kin.
A quiet evening with a book. Everyone round at the weekend. Start with the look you love and how you like to sit; the combination and fabric can follow.

Start with Mags if you like a clean, defined shape. High arms frame your place to sit; low arms open the sides to the room. The original family has a 40 cm seat height.

Look at Mags Soft if you are drawn to rounded edges and a more relaxed silhouette. It sits lower and is deeper than original Mags. Choose high arms for a framed outline, or low arms for a more open side.
Thinking further ahead? The dedicated removable-cover version is worth exploring if replacing the upholstery later matters to you.
Understand removable covers01 / Find your kind of Mags
Here is how the family fits together. Compare the outline, arms, seat height and covers, then explore the versions that interest you.

01 / The crisp, architectural one.
A defined, structured silhouette with high armrests. Choose this expression if you like a clean outline and a more composed look.

02 / The original, opened up.
The Mags construction and proportions, with lower arms that open the sofa to the room. A useful starting point when you want the Mags look with less enclosure.

03 / A softer silhouette.
Rounded edges and an extra-soft duvet layer give Mags Soft a more relaxed expression. Its deeper body and lower seat change the way it feels in the room.

04 / Softness, with room to stretch.
The relaxed Mags Soft expression with lower arms and a more open profile. Consider it if you like deep seating and a sofa that feels less enclosed.

05 / A familiar shape. A different cover system.
A distinct low-arm Mags Soft version with upholstery designed to be removed and replaced using Velcro attachments. Choose this version at the outset if replaceable covers matter to you.
Reference configurations and upholstery are shown. Armrest style, seating feel and cover system are separate choices; a fabric colour does not identify the version.
02 / Build around your room
Start with a ready-made combination, or ask us to help plan the modules. The wider HAY range includes options beyond the pieces currently listed online at kin.

A contained, easy-to-plan footprint. Start with a straight combination, then compare the full width and depth for your chosen version.

An extended seat for putting your feet up. Choose the side and the exact chaise module to suit the room, rather than the photograph.

Turn a corner, add seats or plan a larger arrangement using the modules for the chosen series. Ask us to check combinations not listed online.
Left and right describe specific configurations. Use the HAY drawing for the exact combination, rather than guessing from a room photograph. Send us your floor plan and we can help confirm the orientation and specification before you order.
Keep the chosen version in your specification throughout. Do not assume that modules or replacement covers interchange between Mags, Mags Soft and removable-cover versions.
03 / Same name. Different proportions.
A 2.5-seater Mags and a 2.5-seater Mags Soft are not the same size. These straight Combination 1 examples give you a useful starting point.
| Straight Combination 1 | Mags / Mags Low Armrest | Mags Soft / Soft Low / removable cover |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5-seater width | 228 | 238 |
| 3-seater width | 268.5 | 278.5 |
| Overall depth | 95.5 | 103.5 |
| Overall height | 67 | 67 |
| Seat height | 40 | 37 |
Compare straight Combination 1 only. Chaise, corner and other combinations have different footprints; the same combination number is not a universal size across versions. Always confirm the current HAY drawing for the exact model.
Use tape to plot the full width and depth, including any chaise or corner. Leave space for doors, tables and the routes you walk every day.
Check doors, stairs, lifts and turns on the delivery route. Modular construction does not mean every piece will fit through every opening.
Record the version, combination or module codes, orientation, fabric and colour. We can help pull those choices into one order.
04 / Make it feel like home
Texture, colour and stitching can make Mags feel very different. Start with the look you like, then check the fabrics offered for your exact version. The current choices and prices are on each product page.
Explore HAY fabrics & samplesThe dedicated Mags Soft Low Armrest Removable Cover version uses covers secured with Velcro, designed to be removed and reattached without tools.
This is a version to specify from the start, rather than an assumption about any Mags sofa. Check replacement-cover suitability with us. Removable does not automatically mean machine-washable: follow the care instructions for the chosen fabric and supplied cover.
Mags Soft has visible stitched detailing, with choices depending on the upholstery and version. The removable-cover series uses tonal stitching. Confirm the full fabric and stitch specification before ordering.

Before you choose
No. It is a different construction and expression, with rounded edges and a duvet layer. It is also deeper and has a lower seat than original Mags. Choose the sofa version before choosing upholstery.
Low armrest describes the arms. Original Mags and Mags Low Armrest share the catalogue’s 40 cm seat height; Mags Soft versions have a 37 cm seat height.
Ask us. This guide explains the wider family, while the shopping links show our current online edit. We can check current modules, upholstery and ordering options for the configuration you want.
Do not assume they are interchangeable. Send us the version and module references you have, or the layout you want, so we can check the exact specification with HAY.
Explore our HAY fabric library and sample service. Check suitability for the chosen Mags version, then look at samples in your room’s daylight and evening light.
