&Tradition Flowerpot Lamp Buying Guide

Verner Panton’s Flowerpot is recognised by its two facing hemispheres, but the family now includes several formats with different purposes. Choosing by model code is essential: a pendant, plug-in table lamp and rechargeable portable lamp may look related while behaving very differently.

What is the Flowerpot lamp?

Panton designed the original Flowerpot in 1968. Its simple geometric shade creates a clear silhouette and directs light through the lower opening. &Tradition produces the collection in pendant, table, wall and portable forms.

The shared form is useful when repeating a visual idea through several parts of a home, but the formats should not be chosen as a matching set by default. Each position still needs the appropriate light level, control and installation method.

Which Flowerpot model do you need?

Begin with location and light source. Pendants suit fixed ceiling positions, table lamps need a surface and socket, wall models require the appropriate installation, and portable versions trade continuous mains power for mobility. Confirm the exact VP model before comparing colour.

Write down the job in one line before browsing models: for example, ‘local light on a dining table’ or ‘soft light beside a sofa’. This makes it easier to reject a format that has the right colour but the wrong output, reach or control.

How do Flowerpot pendant sizes differ?

Different pendant codes have different diameters and visual weight. A compact shade may work in a row or above a bedside table; a larger one can hold its own over a dining table or in a taller room. Mark the diameter and proposed hanging height in the space.

For a row, plan the group as a whole and relate the outer shades to the table edge. For one pendant, check whether the pool of light covers the useful surface. Ceiling height alone should not determine the drop; consider seated sightlines and the furniture beneath.

Is the VP9 portable right for you?

The VP9 is designed to move between suitable locations without a cable in use. Consider battery life, charging method, light levels and indoor or outdoor restrictions. A portable lamp is useful for local atmosphere, not automatically a replacement for fixed task or general lighting.

Think about where it will be charged and stored as well as where it will be used. If it must be carried outside, check the current location rating and bring it in according to the manufacturer’s guidance rather than leaving it exposed because it is cordless.

How should you choose a finish?

Flowerpot is offered in numerous colours and finishes, which vary by model. Glossy, matt and metallic surfaces respond differently to daylight and handling. Compare the current physical sample or accurate finish image where possible.

Does Flowerpot provide task light?

The downward opening creates local light, but suitability depends on model, height and activity. For sustained reading or desk work, check illuminance, glare and adjustment against a dedicated task lamp.

What technical details matter?

Check whether the source is replaceable or integrated, bulb fitting, maximum wattage, dimming, cable, controls, charging and ingress-protection information. Do not assume specifications are shared across the family.

Keep the model code with the technical sheet when discussing dimmers, replacement lamps or electrical installation. Similar-looking Flowerpot models can require different accessories, and colour names alone are not enough to identify the fitting.

Choosing a Flowerpot lamp

Select the format and size for the lighting job, confirm the model code and technical details, then choose the colour or finish.
